Federer sets up Djokovic meeting
Federer let a lead slip in the third setDefending champion Roger Federer will face rising star Novak Djokovic in the last 16 of the Australian Open after beating Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-3 7-6.
Federer cruised through the first two sets against US Open semi-finalist Youzhny before a hiccup.
The top seed let slip a lead in a dazzling third set from both players but came through 7-5 in the tiebreak.
Djokovic was the first man to reach the fourth round when he beat Danai Udomchoke 6-3 6-4 5-7 6-1.
Federer said he had expected a tough match against Youzhny.
"He came up with some really good shots and is starting to put it together on the match courts," he said.
Djokovic, 19, overpowered world number 102 Udomchoke in the first two sets and served for the match at 5-4.
A dramatic lapse in concentration allowed Udomchoke to snatch that set but Djokovic recovered in style.
The Serbian teenager insists he can beat Federer.
"If I go with the white flag on the court, what am I doing here?" he said.
"I have nine wins in a row now, but that doesn't mean if I play Federer that I'm going to stop here, that I'm already giving up.
"I will do everything to win. I'm going to be motivated, that's for sure."
Elsewhere in the men's tournament, Wayne Arthurs' last Australian Open came to a disappointing end when he had to pull out of his third-round match with an ankle injury.
